we reported jailbreak hackers to plan launching a cydia patch to fix the Wifi issues i
n iOS 8.0 and iOS 8.1. Today, developer Mario Ciabarra just released a patch called “WiFried” in the Cydia Store. Its purpose is to fix the persistent Wi-Fi issues that occur for a lot of iOS 8 users. WiFried allows users to easily enable or disable AWDL / AirDrop support just by a simple tap, which may be the culprit leads to Wifi performance issues.
Mario Ciabarra explained:
I’ve narrowed down the issue to the use of Apple’s Wireless Direct Link (AWDL) that is used for AirDrop, AirPlay, and Gaming connections.
I’ll go out on a limb and say the WiFi issues are because of Apple’s choice of using Bonjour over AWDL and that, given the constraints of the WiFi hardware, this will be difficult to get right.
Below is a simple guide to tell you how to install the WiFried package to fix the WiFi issue.
Step 1: Obviously the first your device must have been jailbroken used pangu in iOS 8.0 – iOS 8.1. If you’ve already jailbroken your device, go to step 2.
Step 2: Launch Cydia from Home screen.
Step 3: Tap on the Search button in the tab bar and search for WiFried.
Step 4: Once found, open it and tap on Install -> Confirm to install the package on your iOS 8 device.
Step 5: To disable AWDL and fix the WiFi problem, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center, tap on AirDrop and choose WiFried (AWDL Off).
Reportedly OS X Yosemite users also experience similar Wi-Fi network performance issues related to AWDL. To fix it on OS X, users can simply type the following terminal commands in to fix the issue on the desktop:
sudo ifconfig awdl0 down
To reenable AWDL, use the following:
sudo ifconfig awdl0 up
